Seibert Elementary School History

Seibert School was opened in the fall of 1963. It was the third school in the Panama School District. At that time there were only about 1,000 students in the entire district. The other two schools were Panama and Stine.

Seibert School was named for Amy B. Seibert. She was born on Greenhorn Mountain in August 1889. She began teaching in 1908 at the age at the age of 19 at Panama School. She taught four of the schools eight grades in one room. She taught for 27 years, was a librarian at the Panama Branch for 21 years and served on the Panama Union School District Board for 22 years. She retired in 1959. A local newspaper account in January 1963 said the decision to name the school after Amy Seibert was "because of the great services Amy B. Seibert has rendered the children of this district".

Groundbreaking for the school was in December 1963. The original building included 12 bathrooms and 2 restrooms. Today there are 26 classrooms, a science and computer lab, large library, daycare building, office, lounge, supply/work room, kitchen and cafeteria.
